2026 Street Improvement Projects
The Village of Sturtevant will be completing several roadway improvement projects in 2026 aimed at maintaining infrastructure, improving drainage, and extending pavement life.
Project Locations
- 90th Street (Charles St to Michigan Ave) – Railroad drainage repairs
- Charles Street – Roadway rehabilitation and drainage improvements
- Michigan Avenue – Roadway rehabilitation and drainage improvements
Charles Street & Michigan Avenue – 2026 Roadway Improvements
Construction is beginning on Charles Street and Michigan Avenue between Wisconsin Street and 90th Street.
The project includes pavement rehabilitation, significant curb and gutter replacement, drainage improvements, storm and sanitary sewer structure work, sidewalk and ADA-accessibility improvements, grading, restoration, and pavement markings. The project also includes a new sidewalk along the north side of Charles Street and planned bike lanes along Charles Street.
Anticipated Construction Progress
Construction is anticipated to continue through late summer and early fall 2026. The contractor's general sequence of work is expected to include:
- Late July/Early August: Preliminary work, erosion control, pavement sawing, clearing, and removal of designated curb and gutter. Work is anticipated to begin on Michigan Avenue before progressing to Charles Street.
- August: Roadway excavation and base preparation, curb and gutter replacement, sidewalk work, and storm sewer inlet and manhole improvements.
- September: Roadway pulverization and grading, asphalt paving, landscaping and restoration, final paving, and pavement markings.
Please note: Construction schedules are approximate and subject to change due to weather, field conditions, contractor operations, material availability, and other unforeseen circumstances.
What Residents and Businesses Should Expect
Charles Street and Michigan Avenue will remain active construction areas throughout the project. Temporary traffic restrictions, construction equipment, uneven roadway surfaces, dust, noise, and periodic delays should be expected.
The Village and contractor will make every effort to maintain access to homes and businesses whenever possible. Temporary driveway access restrictions may be necessary during certain operations, particularly excavation, concrete work, and paving.
Advance notice will be provided when construction activities are expected to significantly affect property access.
Motorists are asked to use caution, obey construction signage, and avoid the construction area when possible.

The Village will update this page as construction progresses and when significant changes occur that may affect traffic or property access.
