Sturtevant Sanitary Sewer Information

The first quarter sanitary sewer bills have been mailed out and some residents have questions concerning the bills. This information sheet provides information in regard to those questions:

  • Sturtevant does not own a sewer treatment plant.
  • All of the sewage from Sturtevant flows through Mt.Pleasant's sewer lines to the City of Racine's treatment plant.
  • Sturtevant gets charged fees from both Mt. Pleasant and the City of Racine for this sewage flow.
  • Sturtevant has no control over the amount that it is charged by either Mt. Pleasant or the City of Racine.
  • Sturtevant, by contract, is required to pay to Mt. Pleasant the Mt. Pleasant retail rates for the Sturtevant customers in the northern part of the village.
  • Sturtevant is charged a flat rate per quarter for sanitary sewer charges for each of these residential units by the Village of Mt. Pleasant.
  • All residential units within the Village of Sturtevant will now be charged a flat rate for sanitary sewer services.
  • These flat rate charges are not the result of the sale of the Sturtevant Water Utility to the City of Racine.
  • Sturtevant's flat rate for sanitary sewer is based on the above described Mt.Pleasant flat rate.
  • All residential units within the Village of Mt.Pleasant are charged a flat rate per quarter by the Mt.Pleasant Sanitary Sewer Utility which is comparable to the charge imposed by the Sturtevant Sewer Utility for Sturtevant residents.
  • Sewer fees pay for more than the water flowing through the toilet: infrastructure costs such as pipes, pumping stations, and treatment plant costs exist regardless of the specific amount of sewage flowing from a particular household.
