Snow Season
From Sturtevant
[edit]
SNOW REMOVAL
- All snow must be cleared from sidewalks within 24 hours of every snow fall per Village of Sturtevant Ordinance 8.12(1).
- If snow is not cleared from sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowfall, the Village will remove the snow at the property owners expense. ALL sidewalks, including those that end to vacant lots, have to be cleaned, no exceptions.
- DO NOT blow snow into the streets. Besides being against Village ordinances and subject to a citation, it will result in hazardous traveling conditions and lead to potential accidents.
- Residents with fire hydrants on their property are responsible for clearing snow around the hydrant after each snowfall.
[edit]
SNOW EMERGENCY INFORMATION
- During severe weather conditions, listen to local news media stations for declaration of any village snow emergency. During a snow emergency, there is no parking on any Village Street until cancellation. Violators can be ticketed and vehicles subjected to be towed.
[edit]
SNOW SEASON REMINDERS
- DO NOT PASS or FOLLOW Snow Plow trucks too closely. They make sudden stops, unexpected turns, and dispense road salt which could damage vehicles if too close. Stay back at least 100 feet and follow with caution.
- Walk on sidewalks ONLY and refrain from walking along the side of Village Streets, especially during the winter/snow season. This is a hazardous practice and individuals could be inadvertently hit by moving vehicles.
- Owners with new sidewalks or who had sidewalk replacement done this year should refrain from placing salt on new sidewalks or limit the amount of salt placed on new concrete. Salt will harm the finish. Use a calcium or magnesium chloride type de-icer on new sidewalks.
