Free trees
From Sturtevant
Free Tree Giveaway The Village has been able to obtain 100 trees which will be offered free to residents of Sturtevant. The trees are two year old bare root saplings, 12"-30" (not including roots) and have been donated by Living Lands & Waters Million Trees Project in partnership with Milwaukee's Argosy Foundation. The trees that will be available to Village residents are the following:
- Red Oak Quercus Rubra common name Red Oak-Suitable for our area and is a fast grower (25" plus per year); 65' tall
- Swamp White Quercus Biocolor common name Swamp White Oak-Suitable for our area and is a moderate to fast grower; 60' tall
- Pin Quercus Palustris common name Pin Oak-Suitable for our area and is a moderate grower; 60' tall
- Black Quercus Velutina common name Black Oak - Suitable for our area and is a moderate grower (12-24" per year); 60' tall irregular shape
These trees are NOT suitable for planting in the road right of parkway (terrace) but they are available for planting in residents' yards. Please note that oak trees generate acorns.
The Village will be getting the trees on April 6, 2009. If you are interested in obtaining any of these trees, they will be available at the Village Hall, 2801 89th Street for pick up on a first come first served basis.
The hours for pick up are: Monday April 6, 2009: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday April 7, 2009: 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday April 8, 2009: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday April 9, 2009: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
