THANK YOU FROM THE VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR

This winter has been one for the record books. I would like to thank all of the residents of Sturtevant for their understanding and their cooperation during the winter of 2007-2008. As many of you know, the Village currently has only 4 full time DPW workers. When a major storm hits, Jimmy, John, Lyle and Ron are out there plowing snow. Often they start early in the morning and they often work late into the night. They get the streets cleared as soon as they can but with some storms this year, it was not quick or easy. I would like to express my appreciation to the residents of Sturtevant for their patience as these workers attempted to work through the Village as quickly as they could. Please keep in mind that these drivers can only work so many hours before safety concerns force them to take a break. The trucks and plows that we use also suffer from overuse and we have had numerous breakdowns because of the number of hours and miles being put on our vehicles.

You have probably heard press reports of salt shortages. This shortage has hit Sturtevant too. We have had to cut back on the use of salt simply because our supplier was short on salt supplies.

Hopefully the winter will soon be over, but we have had snow storms in the month of May in the past. Residents of Sturtevant can continue to help by keeping the sidewalks clear and clearing snow away from fire hydrants. As the snow begins to melt, please try to clear out the catch basins so that the water will run off. Finally, if you see Ron, Jimmy, Lyle or John go by in a Sturtevant truck, give them a wave to thank them for getting us through this terrible winter.
